A few of our milestones

Since our launch in 2012 the Friends have held a number of events, raising well over £100,000 through events and donations and handing most of this over to the church Fabric Fund to pay for repairs and improvements to the building and in one or two cases its facilities. Milestones include:

A fund raising DVD John McCarthy’s Woodbridge
The writer and broadcaster, John McCarthy, a former resident of the town, returned to Woodbridge and rekindled his memories of a very special place. Together with Tim Curtis, cameraman, editor and filmmaker, they generously gave their time and expertise to produce a DVD to raise funds for The Friends. The 49-minute film includes a fascinating history of St Mary’s, its role in the community and the major restoration works that have been carried out. Copies of the DVD can be purchased or ordered through the church shop.
  • A children’s art event with exhibition in church
  • A Spirit of Woodbridge photographic event and calendar
  • Funding the intricate restoration of a stained glass window on the south wall
  • The installation of a defibrillator for use by the congregation and the local community on the side wall of the Church Centre
  • Funding a church bells restoration project
  • Funding improvements to the exterior church flintwork, including the North Porch
  • A series of annual donations including £40,000 handed over in 2019, thanks in part to a very generous legacy to the Friends from a member of the congregation.
